Monica Morales Hernandez

Monica is an applied mathematician and Associate Teaching Professor at Adelphi University. Her areas of interest include Numerical Analysis, Data Science, Mathematics Education, Mathematical Sociology, with a particular interest in the role of Pop Culture in Mathematics, and the History of Mathematics.

Her current research focuses on the convergence, stability, and error analysis of numerical schemes for partial differential equations; longitudinal analysis of national-level healthcare data to address the needs of medically underserved populations; and exploring the connections between pop culture and mathematics. Her broader interdisciplinary interests also include the application of mathematics to social and global challenges, particularly in the context of sustainable development, international cooperation, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Monica is actively engaged in the United Nations community in New York City, where she participates in UN-related programs, discussions, and initiatives focused on global challenges and sustainable development. This engagement reflects her interest in connecting mathematics and higher education with broader international efforts to advance social impact and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

She is the immediate Past Chair of the AWM Student Chapters Committee, a member of the EvenQuads Committee, former Co-chair of the Communicating Employment Opportunities AWM Committee, and currently serves as a Metro NExT Coordinator for the MAA’s New York Section.

She also finds solace in outdoor activities, such as hiking with her mini dachshund, Suga, and exploring new places, which serve as a reminder of the fluidity and beauty of the natural world she studies. In her spare time, Monica enjoys staying up-to-date with the latest BTS trends and namjooning in NYC.
