The best way to get in touch with me is through my university email. If you are my student, make sure you follow the guidelines posted on Moodle about writing emails. If you are not my student and your message is clear, important, and/or relevant, I typically respond in a timely manner, unless I’m on vacation in which case, I don’t check email at all!
When you write to me, please make sure to include your full name. If we haven’t met before, introduce yourself briefly: let me know who you are, what university or institution you're writing from, your program or major, and why you're reaching out. This helps me respond more efficiently and thoughtfully to your request.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:
It is also very common for students to write to me requesting a letter of recommendation to attend an event or to apply to a graduate program. If this is your case, please read the following:
If you need a letter of recommendation to attend an event, you must have taken at least one course with me and passed with a minimum grade of B+ and/or have completed your thesis under my supervision. If you meet these requirements, you must send me a draft of the recommendation letter, which should be properly written and follow this structure:
The recipient of the letter should be the person or committee in charge of the event you want to attend.
In the first paragraph, explain the purpose of the letter, including the name and dates of the event.
In the second paragraph, explain how I know you and how you performed in the course you took with me (this is a good opportunity for self-assessment). In this paragraph, also describe your current situation as a student (your major, current semester, GPA, etc.).
In the third paragraph, explain why you are interested in attending the event and what you hope to gain from your participation.
End the letter with a thank you and a closing.
If you meet the requirements and your draft is well written, I will take care of making adjustments, adding the final details to the letter, and sending it back to you with my signature. I recommend contacting me at least fifteen days in advance, as I do NOT accommodate urgent requests.
If the letter of recommendation you need is for applying to a graduate program, then you must have taken at least TWO courses with me (which you must have passed satisfactorily with a minimu grade of B+) and/or completed your thesis under my supervision, or have been my assistant. If you meet these requirements, please contact me well in advance (at least one month), as these types of letters tend to be more delicate.
